Instructions for Professional Journal Critiques

 

Objective: The Professional Journal Critique is designed to introduce you to the various articles and journals that may potentially have an impact upon you as you enter the teaching profession. This assignment also encourages you to think critically and reflectively on the issues present in your field.

 

Instructions:

 

  1. All critiques must be word processed, double-spaced, and typed in either 10 or 12 inch font (12 is preferred).

 

      2.  All critiques should be grammatically accurate and spelling/punctuation

           should be correct.

 

  1. The journal article must be from a professional journal and be relevant to

some aspect of teaching or education. (Do not use EdWeek or newspapers!!!!)

 

  1. The critique should be comprised of 3 parts:
    1. an introductory paragraph that introduces the

topic addressed in the article.

                 

    1. a paragraph (or two) that summarizes SUCCINCTLY the major

points in the article.

 

    1. a concluding paragraph (or two) that discusses your constructive

opinion of the article and how that article might matter to you as

 a teacher. (Note: You DON’T have to agree w/the article).

 

  1. The complete critique should be no longer than 2 pages typed, double-spaced.

 

  1. You should use APA to list the bibliographic data in the critique. (There will

be a separate post on this subject--check your e-mail for details on Citation Machine).

 

 

Grading will be as follows:

             50% = content

             50%=  grammar/style

 

Due Dates:

                   JOURNAL CRITIQUE: Article approval due Tues. October10th. Journal Critique due by midnight on Thurs. Oct. 12th.
