Institutional Planning Committee

September 28, 2007

Minutes

Michael Noll called the meeting to order at 8:30am.  Attending were Cindy Tandy, Fred Ware, Linda Bennett Elder, Bobby Flowers, and James LaPlant.

Dr. Noll provided the committee with an update on recent discussions at the University Council, and distributed the minutes of the August 28, 2007, University Council meeting.  Dr. Noll briefly presented the City of Valdosta’s Comprehensive Transportation Master Plan, and the IPC discussed possible intersections with VSU’s own public transportation needs.  There was a general discussion of construction projects on campus.  Dr. Noll distributed the preamble of VSU’s Environmental Policy, and Bobby Flowers mentioned a Landscape Master Plan.

There also was a general discussion of the new standard template for VSU web pages, and Dr. Noll mentioned a meeting of the VSU Web Board on October 11th in the University Center. The meeting will provide an opportunity for VSU webmasters to discuss questions and concerns about VSU’s web pages.

Dr. Noll distributed a copy of the Bylaws of the Institutional Planning Committee.  The committee needs to update the titles of some of the members listed in the bylaws. Moreover, committee members will carefully review the bylaws and discuss possible revisions at the next meeting.  Dr. Ware suggested a possible name change for the committee (“Faculty Senate Planning and Advisory Committee”), which Dr. LaPlant noted could be done in conjunction with the next revision of the University Statutes.

There was a general discussion of the cleaning of buildings and the schedules of the custodial staff.  The committee noted problems with maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms, offices and bathrooms with the custodial staff often working during peak teaching hours.  Bobby Flowers noted that COSA (Council on Staff Affairs) could discuss the issue of custodial staff working hours and the maintenance of the buildings.  The suggestion was made of custodial staff working hours earlier or later in the day.

Dr. Noll adjourned the meeting at 9:45am.

Respectfully submitted,

James T. LaPlant
