Institutional Planning Committee
February 27, 2008
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 9:00am. Attending were Kristina Cragg, Arlene Haddon, James LaPlant, Michael G. Noll, Cindy Tandy, Fred Ware, and Vesta Whisler.
Dr. Ware reported on the Faculty Senate meeting of February 21, Dr. James LaPlant provided the committee with an update on recent discussions at the University Council (February 26), and Dr. Noll reported on the expansion of VSU’s Web Board in response to a request by the IPC.
At its meeting, the Institutional Planning Committee briefly touched upon the subject of its By-Laws. In the coming weeks, Dr. James LaPlant and Dr. Charles Backes will bring the By-Laws up-to-date and will make recommendations in regard to any changes if deemed necessary.
Dr. Haddon also raised the issue of whether or not a summary of Faculty Senate meetings could be made available as podcasts via VSU’s website, so that members of the VSU community, who are not part of the Faculty Senate, can learn about the various issues raised at these meetings. The Communication Arts Department may perhaps be best situated to facilitate such a project with the help of its students. If successful, such podcast summaries could also be made available for other relevant meetings at VSU.
For personal reasons, Dr. Michael G. Noll has resigned from the Faculty Senate and, thus, will no longer be able to serve as Chair of the Institutional Planning Committee. For the rest of the academic year, Dr. Fred Ware has agreed to fill out his term until the Chair-elect will take this position in Fall 2009. Consequently, Dr. Ware will also represent the IPC on the Executive Committee and the University Council for the rest of the academic year.
The next meetings of the Institutional Planning Committee are scheduled for March 26 and April 23 and will be held at the Dean’s Conference room in the Biology-Chemistry building, 9 – 10 am.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50am.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael G. Noll
