Student teachers are placed in sites approved by the departmental External Placement & Site Development Committee, with consideration for the student's desired place of residence. Placement may occur in any approved site within the VSU service region, which consists of 31 counties (34 school systems). Placement in the local Valdosta City Schools exposes preservice teachers to students living in a variety of small city environments. Placement throughout the region exposes preservice teachers to students from primarily three cultural perspectives, Caucasian American, African American, and Hispanic.
