The philosophy, mission, and goals of the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders relate to and compliment the mission of the VSU College of Education in that:

• Our focus is on service to the south Georgia region
• We are committed to program excellence to enhance the future of south Georgia
• We believe in and seek to maintain a quality learning environment for students, staff, and other community consumers
• We offer a range of academic programming that reflects our efforts to meet the needs of students with disabilities in this region, and
• We have a commitment to scholarly work to promote recommended practices in our profession as well as to increase the knowledge base in Special Education and Communication Disorders
